Our History

Who are we?

From the time it was founded on August 28, 1971, the Marian Work evolved under the regard of God, for its true unity is of a spiritual nature. When the same ideal unites souls, there is a deep and joyful harmony.

We do not ask for anything. God provides for everything by inspiring generous hearts, both among the laity and the religious. In fact, many members, prompted by the ideal of giving of themselves and of donating, have generously offered to work as volunteers for an apostolic purpose.

So it was that, in order to meet the growing needs of the Work developing discreetly and to reply to the multiple requests made by members, a secretariat was established on the premises used by the Work. That is where secretaries looked after the mailing and distribution of the Army of Mary’s review as well as a few leaflets of documentation and books of spirituality. Ten years later, with the purchase of a new building, the bookstore at the Center of the Immaculate came into being and began operating out of larger premises, for the needs were increasing. In 1984, it became known as the “Librairie Espoir et Vie”.

After a few years, the boutique Le Rosier d’Or opened its doors on 22nd Street in the Limoilou district in Quebec City on October 25, 1997.

At the same time, small bookstores were set up in different dioceses in order to favor members who, living far away, did not have the possibility of participating in the Work’s various activities and, as a result, did not have access to a variety of new items coming out.

After 18 years of commercial activity working out of a business location and further to new developments in the Work, it was decided that, as of August 15, 2015, Le Rosier d’Or would adopt, for an unspecified period of time, a new way of operating its business, that is, through sales on its Internet website. Thus, the boutique in Quebec City closed its doors to the public and the merchandise was transferred to Lac-Etchemin, at 305, rue Industrielle, where the orders are filled and then made available for pick-up at 626, route du Sanctuaire.
